NURSING AND ELDERLY CARE CENTER

The prolonging life and the management process of old age, which are among the realities of today’s world, have become an important problem for the society that has evolved into a nuclear family structure. In order to solve this problem, nursing homes and elderly care centers provide professional support to the elder people and their relatives. Institutionalized nursing homes and elderly care centers try to ensure that elder people get active by planning personalized services on the assumption that each individual’s aging style is different. Within the traditional family structure, it is not possible to correctly understand and name the psychological, physiological and biological changes that occur for elder individual as they get older. The society, which finds it wrong to evaluate old age together with the diseases it will contain due to its traditional mentality, names all of these important diseases as “dementia”, while this situation has been passed on from generation to generation as a taboo. However, the fact of long life and aging society is making the individual, who has difficulties even while catching up with his inner world, ask the question “well, how are we going to take care of our old people?”. In this way, it has been seen that age-related changes are not only dementia, but can also contain important diagnoses such as “Alzheimer’s, dementia”. With the diagnosis of these diseases, it has been determined that the elder people can be treated for diseases and the condition called “dementia” can be slowed down even if it cannot be regressed. The fact that the relevant diseases require 7 days 24 hours follow-up and professional care has significantly increased the need for nursing homes and elderly care centers. The main reason for this is the regular use of drugs used in the treatment of dementia and dementia-like diseases and the regular observation of the person with this disease. Nursing homes and elderly care centers work with expert teams that will play an active and active role in the treatment and follow-up of these diseases. Nursing homes and elderly care centers do not only play a role in the treatment and follow-up of diseases. They also provide subjective psycho-social support to the elderly individual. Not every individual has to choose active aging. Taking into account the individuality of aging and old age, nursing homes and elderly care centers are trying to organize the world of individuals living in isolation, to find and practice work-related activities for the individual. Another important problem of the society we live in regarding old age is “loneliness in old age”. One of the main purposes of nursing homes and elderly care centers is to eliminate this loneliness. With nuclear family structure, due to the responsibilities of family members regarding their individual lives and the difficulties of parents and children living in the same house to spend most of their time at home with the elderly individual, they become lonely. Nursing homes and elderly care centers identify the psychological and physiological problems that this loneliness will cause, while providing an environment in which the person can communicate with their relatives and serve in a way that they can continue their individual life. In this way, the elderly person will not be separated from social life and will solve the difficulties that this situation will cause by thinking that the elderly person is safe while their relatives continue their daily lives. Aging is a process that every person will experience and cannot stop. In this process, the aging person shapes his/her life order with certain habits that he/she builds on him/her. These habits are often difficult to break, regulate and change. Chronic diseases and age-related physiological inadequacies of the aging individual are both obstacles and dangers for the regular realization of some habits. For example, if a person with loss of balance and gait disorder walks alone every day without support, the risk of falling increases. Nursing homes and elderly care centers aim to increase the quality of life of the individual by making care plans that try to maintain these habits and eliminate the risks while maintaining the habits. The natural process of aging significantly affects the daily life activities of the aging individual. The person falls short in vital matters such as taking a bath, feeding, and cleaning both the environment and the personal. Nursing homes and elderly care centers work with expert personnel in order to carry out daily life activities regularly. The actions that the individual can no longer perform alone are provided with professional support, without being stuck with age-related obstacles. In the changing and developing world, the concept of old age continues to change without counting. Fifty years ago, we weren’t even aware of the concepts we normalize today. Taboos related to old age also change shape depending on these changes, while some diseases that we know require 7 days 24 hours follow-up and professional care can only be provided with correct service in some institutions. Situations such as not following age and age-related changes closely, ignoring existing problems and diagnosing diseases within the family instead of professional diagnosis cause irreversible problems. Nursing homes and elderly care centers play an active role in the society in the elimination, stopping and follow-up of these problems and greatly reduce the care burden on individuals.
